Things to Do

We are in the heart of the Département du Gard, Region of Occitanie, with Nîmes, Avignon and Uzès each within 25 minutes.  There is so much to do in the area that it is hard to know where to begin, but here we will offer a few suggestions!

Pont du Gard

The flagship attraction of the area is the famous Pont du Gard, a Roman aqueduct built in the 1st century AD to bring water to Nîmes.  Not only is this an amazing historical attraction with visitor centre and museum, but you can also swim and kayak in the crystal clear river beneath it and this is a very popular activity among tourists and locals alike.  The PdG is only 5 minutes by car, or 15 min by bicycle.

The Mediterranean

We are about an hour by car from the beautiful Mediterranean and her wonderful beaches!  What a better way to spend a long summer day!

Our favourite beach is the long soft sand beach at Plage de Petite Travers, near La Grande-Motte.

The Camargue

We are proud to be the jumping off point for The Camargue, a region largely unknown outside of France.  Come to see the flamingoes, taste the famous sea salt, go to the beach, or maybe catch a glimpse of the Camargue cowboys atop their unique local white horses.  (Or, go on a horse safari yourself!)

A must visit is the wallled town of Aigues-Mortes.

Nîmes

Visit the ancient Roman city of Nîmes, famous for its grand Arena.  Also to recommend is the Roman Museum.  It's easy to spend a day wandering the streets of the old town where many great restaurants and cafés are to be found.

Avignon

Visit the City of Avignon, home to the "Palais du Papes", one of France's most noteworthy attractions.  Be sure to visit Les Halles, a fantastic covered market where you can stock your kitchen at SGPdG with all the food you need to make gorgeous meals during your stay.
